New Job

Filed under: Will — Will @ 9:05 pm

Next week I start a new job.  Still within OneSteel Wire, I shall be responsible for implementing LEAN working throughout the business.  This is a ‘way of working’ all about reducing waste…. waste time, waste materials, waste effort etc.

It will be challenging job but also very exciting.  I’ll be starting off in the rope works in Newcastle for 6 months or so then working my way through the Wiremill and our other 2 factories in Victoria.  Lots of training to start with and I’ll be expected to be running everyone elses training myself.

While Will was at work…

Filed under: Family Activities — Sarah @ 9:27 pm

We were so busy whilst Will was at work.  Managing to get alot of scooting in around the Wetlands, playgrounds and paths along the beach of Williamstown! (how corny is that!!)  Monday, we spent around the Quest Apartments on the paths of the Wetlands, picnic in the playground and general causing havic with removing of rocks and flowers from their gardens!

Tuesday, The Melbourne Museum.  Hatching th past.  A travelling Dinosaur Expo.  Dinosaur digs, 3D movies, games and activities and load of information for the kids, it was difficult to drag them away to see the rest of the Museum.  A few trams and trains trips which topped the day!

Wednesday, Will worked early in the morning and spent the rest of the day at Werribee Safari Park/Zoo. Firstly a tour around in a big bus to see all the animals, walking paths, playgrounds and a picnic. Arrived backnear to Williamstown to have a big scoot around a skate park then we were taken out to dinner by OneSteel!  Yum!  A lovely restaurant on the Beach with a big open fire, watching the sunset.

Thursday, back to Melbourne to view the Art Deco Exhibition at the Victorian Gallery, much to the childrens horror!  They did enjoy seeing old back and whites on a large screen… like King Kong! Anyways I really enjoyed it, fantastic!  After a picnic lunch in the Botanic Gardens we caught a tram to the Immigration Museum.  Jack and Grace were really amazed to see how people came to live in Australia.  Life on the journey via boat, many personal stories of experiences.  Very interesting.

Friday, packed while the children scooted all around the Apartment complex and annoyed the reception and cleaning staff!  Drove to Gundagai via Laverton to collect Will (which was a good thing!) four and a half  hours staight up the Hume Hwy. Stayed at the same B&B  as we did last trip, fantastic place with adjoining rooms.

Saturday, headed to Sydney to have dinner with Bob and Carolyn at Tony and Heathers.  Spent the afternoon at the park playing basketball, running wild, playground and … scooting! Great to see the Declan and Angus. Bob and Carolyn headed off to Canada for 5 weeks!  We arrived back to Newy about ten.  Good to be back in our own beds.

Visit to Don, Bronwyn & Sinta on route to Melbourne

Filed under: Family Activities — Sarah @ 8:43 pm

Our first stop on route to Melbourne began on Friday afternoon, an easy five hour drive.  Don’s home is beautifully nestled in the mountains just inland from Shalhaven area of the South Coast of NSW.  We were welcomed by Don and his daughter Bronwyn and Granddaughter, Sinta (visiting from Canberra).  A blazing fire, fantastic pizza and a few glasses of red!  Yum!  The kids all had fun chasing each other and catching up.  The last time we were together was in Canberra last December for a Triathlon.

The next morning we all went exploring, feeding the goats and walking the dogs on the tracks.  Perfect winters day.  Shame we had to leave, venture on south for Will to make it to Melbourne for work!  Next stop, Eden NSW, another five hours drive.  A very pretty costal town.

From Eden to Melbourne about seven hours drive.  The coast road is lovely.

Arrived Melbourne to meet Simone and Dave at our apartment with freshly made soup and turkish bread.  Fantastic!  We were soo lucky to manage to catch up twice with them, both busy with work and project building there own knockdown and rebuild in Port Melbourne.   Very exciting!  We obviously did alot of comparing of notes.

Deadly Animals

Filed under: Will — Will @ 9:55 am

I read an interesting article in last weekends papers.

The most deadly animal in Australia is………… the horse, which caused about twice as many deaths in 2007 as the second most deadly………… the cow.  Followed closely by dogs and then snakes!!

I’ll not worry about swimming in shark infested waters, I’ll just keep away from farms!
