Easter Monday Walk

Filed under: Sarah, Will — Will @ 9:04 pm

On Easter Monday Sarah and I had the luxury of a child-free day.  We dropped the kids off with Mary and Lance and went into the Yorkshire Dales through sheets of rain for a walk.

Fortunately by the time we started walking the sun was out and it was a glorious day (bit windy though!).  The walk took us over the tops from Grassington, through some lovely countryside and then followed the River Wharf back to Grassington.  10 miles later we sank into the car and shot off for tea in York then take the children home to bed.

Cuckoo Festival

Filed under: Family Activities — Will @ 8:54 pm

We went to the Cuckoo Festival in Marsden the other day.  Legend has it that….the villagers always recognised that the nicer weather and longer days came with the Cuckoo, so they decided to catch the cuckoo.  In their infinate wisdom they built a wall around it, and it promptly flew away because the wall was ‘nowt but a coarse too low’!!

Every year there is a hunt for the cuckoo and a parade through the village.  It was raining while we were there but we still had a good time especially when we joined in the parade and had a ride on the aeroplane merry-go-round.
