The stork arrived for the Cranes

Filed under: Family — Will @ 8:47 pm

We were delighted to be woken by a phone call early on Sunday morning.  The reason was that Sarah’s brother David and his wife Rachel had had a baby boy.  Blake Robert Crane.

We’ve seen some photos but can’t wait to see him in the flesh.

Barcelona

Filed under: Family Activities — Will @ 8:44 pm

As a little treat for ourselves we all went to Barcelona last weekend.  We flew early on the Saturday morning and came back on Tuesday so we had 3 days exploring the city, and what a city it is.

We’d rented a 2 bedroom appartment right in the tourist centre (just off La Ramblas) which was very handy for all the sights, just a little noisy at night.

The first day we spent walking around the old part of the city, and looking at a couple of amazing markets.  Full of fresh fruit and more types of fish and shell fish than you could shake a lobster at.

The next day we went up to a park overlooking the city.  We’d planned to go to the castle at the top of the park on a cable car, but this was out of action so we walked around overlooking the city.  After a siesta we walked down to the seafront with the crowds of tourists.  The sun was out and it was lovely walking past all the boats.

The next day we had even nicer weather so we took an open topped tourist bus around the sights we hadn’t yet seen.  The main 2 stops were Gaudi’s Cathedral (Sagrada Familiar) and his Parc Guell.  The Sagrda Familiar is still under construction, they estimate 30 years to go!, and it’s fascinating seeing all the strange architecture and all the workers still hard at it.

We had lunch in Parc Guell and it was a welcome relax under the sun, watching Jack and Grace play in the main area.  The rest of the bus trip took us past the Olympic stadiums and the other fascinating buildings in the city.

The only downside to the trip was that we were all ill at one time or another, but we still had a wonderful 4 days away.  Barcelona is well worth visiting.

Snow

Filed under: Family Activities — Will @ 9:40 pm

We’ve had a fair bit of snow last weekend and today.

I came home from work in a blizzard last week, so Jack and I went into the park.  Me, to take photos and Jack to make snow balls.  Pictures are in the gallery.

Yesterday we went to a Spring Fair for the Wakefield Branch of the National Childbrith Trust.  Jack and Grace had great fun with some of their friends.  More pictures in the gallery.

Then today it’s been snowing hard, so we went across the Penines to some resevoirs on the edge of Saddleworth Moor.  The snow was quite thick and there were a lot of people sledging.  Unfortunately there was a very strong wind, so we didn’t get far out of the car park before having to turn around.  But the surrounding hills were very pretty.

House Photos

Filed under: Family Activities — Will @ 9:10 pm

I’ve put some photos of the house in the Gallery.  These were taken from the Estate Agents website and show the house at it’s tidiest….it doesn’t always look like this!

We’ve had a fair bit of interest this week with 5 different people arranged to view so far.

House For Sale

Filed under: Family Activities — Will @ 9:06 pm

Our house has gone up for sale this week.  Sarah has done loads of work smartening it up (and I’ve done a little) to make the house look really good.

The sign goes up on monday and it goes in the paper next week.
