Si and Naomi visit

Filed under: Family Activities — Will @ 10:02 pm

Last weekend Si and Naomi came up from London to visit.  It was great to see them.

On Saturday Naomi did some research at Wakefield Museum about Charles Waterton.  All the Andrews went for a walk around the markets and picked up some freshly made pork pies.

We then had a walk around Pugneys Lake in the sunshine.  Jack and Grace, as usual, enjoyed splashing in the muddy puddles and getting thoroughly dirty.

In the evening, after the kids had gone to bed, Si, Naomi and I went to pick up some more beer from the off-license (via the pub), and we had a wonderful time chatting into the night.

Next day, we went to the sculpture park for a walk and then Si and Naomi set off down the motorway while we went home

During the week we’ve been having the house done up ready to sell.  We’ve finally done everything we wanted to do to the house, ready for the next people to enjoy.

Football to Hospital to Polo

Filed under: Will — Will @ 9:57 pm

I played 5 a-side football on thursday evening as usual and managed to hurt my knee.  As I couldn’t move it on Friday I went to hospital (after driving to and from work!).  The doctor said I’d sprained a muscle and should rest it for five days.  No way was this possible as I had an important Polo tournament on Saturday.

It was our last tournament in the National Division 4 League, and we needed to do well to stay in 2nd place and get promoted.  Fortunately I could squeeze into my boat and so played.  We had one very tense game against the League leaders, West Lothian, in which they came out on top 1-0, but it was an excellent game and we were pleased with the result.  The evening finished with a penalty which I put away (I missed my last one!) and the League finished 16 wins and 2 losses.  There’s one tournement left for the other teams, but the lowest we could come is 2nd, so we’ll be promoted to Division 3 next season.

Decorating, Circus and Polo

Filed under: Family Activities — Will @ 8:11 pm

We’ve had a lady in decorating our hall, landing and stairs over the past week.  She’s come out of retirement as she enjoys it so much.  The advantage for us is she is incredibly cheap, but still very good.

She was here Tuesday to Friday and has totally renovated the hall, landing and almost all the other woodwork in the house.

Then last Friday we went over to Mary and Lance’s for the night.  Sarah and I left the children there and went out to see the Moscow State Circus.  This was in a theatre which was a bit odd, but we had a great time.  There were, acrobats, trapeze artists, a magician, jugglers and of course clowns.  The theatre was quite empty but the clowns got the audience involved especially one poor man who ended up on stage three or four times.

On Saturday evening Sarah took Grace home while I went to a Canoe Polo tournament in York.  This was our last tournament in the Yorkshire Division 2 League.  We ended up winning all 5 games which means that, as we’ve won all 15 of our games in the League, we are champions and will be promoted to Division 1 next year.  Mary and Lance brought Jack over to watch one game which he enjoyed, especially as his Dad scored 3 goals!!
